Toilet Training Is Part of Being a Big Kid

When we have children, potty training is viewed as a necessary evil. We know we must do it, but few of us are really happy about it. Instead of dreading it, we need to change how we feel about it! Toilet training is a huge part of being a big kid, and it doesn’t have to be the difficult part that we all imagine it will be.

Potty Training Made Easy!

A child that is truly ready for the big kid toilet will be much easier to teach. They will be more receptive to learning if we do not try to force them before they are ready. The question for most parents then becomes, how do you know?

In most cases, the child will let you know when they are ready. They will go longer between wet diapers, show curiosity about the toilet, or seek privacy when they are using their diaper. Your child may also come to you to say that they are dirty or ask for a clean bottom.

The trick as a parent is to know your child well enough to know when they are ready. You have to be able to understand the signs that they are giving. If you have two or three little ones, or have had other kids before this one, it is important that you also understand, no two kids will ever be ready at the same time. Some children may be ready when they are 1.5-years old. Others may not be fully ready or accident-free until they are four.

Be Ready to Ask for Help

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. When it comes to potty training, truer words have never been spoken. It can be easier to tackle if you have a little help from your partner, your family, and your child’s pre-school.

This also means that everyone your child is around should know that you are trying to get the process started. These people will be a true help for you and your child. If you need a break from it or need new ideas for overcoming a challenge with toilet training, they will be a sounding board. When working to teach your child a totally new concept, you may be surprised by how much it will help you get through it without stressing you or your child.
