So, you want to build a boat?

The course offers hands on opportunities to truly learn the intricacies and rewards of boat building. With the learning taking place in hand with the production, theory can easily step from book to production. Students will take place in the production of a watercraft during their time in the class. This will begin with the team production of a skim board where in each student will be able to take part in the building of this watercraft and will learn each step of the process. They will begin from initial design, going to blueprint, production, completion, and finally use.

Official description of the class: This course provides an opportunity for students to discover the fundamentals of Composite Construction Technology and Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding as applied to Fabricated Boat Building. Students can choose to learn the fabrication process for immediate employment in the industry or to continue their studies by attending Manatee Community College for an Associates of Science Degree and Florida State University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. The course includes 900 clock hours (including the completion of occupational completion points A, B & C [750 hrs] + VARTM process [135 hrs] + entrepreneurship [15 hrs]).
