| MTI Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society
( Bradenton , FL — March 26, 2008 ) Manatee Technical Institute inducted 88 students into the National Technical Honor Society in a ceremony held March 25 in Bayshore High School Auditorium. This was the 11 th year that MTI held the annual event honoring its top students.
Many of the students inducted into the honor society are raising children and working full- or part-time while attending school. Several are already professionals either learning a new profession or learning how to practice their profession in this country. Numerous have already earned national certifications in their respective industries.
The National Technical Honor Society honors students who achieve outstanding success in technical education. It is America 's foremost scholastic honor for excellence in workforce education. Fewer than two percent of America 's secondary and post-secondary students are nominated for membership.
Herb Tschappat, Assistant Superintendent, Bob Gause, School Board Member, and Doug Wagner, Director of Adult, Career and Technical Education, gave opening remarks. MTI Director Mary Cantrell was the master of ceremonies. MTI Counselors Jeannell Copeland and Kathy Matthews announced the students names and explained the meaning of the candles and what they represented. MTI instructors made the presentations to the students.
The purpose of NTHS is to reward scholastic achievement in occupational and/or technical education; to promote the ideals of honesty, service, leadership, and skill development among America 's workforce; and to encourage the practice of high standards of personal and professional conduct and individual responsibility among the membership.
There are over 1800 chapters in the United States. MTI received its charter in 1997.
