Manatee Technical Institute - sign Manatee Technical Institute is an adult post-secondary institution offering long- and short-term career and technical education programs on a year- round basis. MTI serves adults and high school students sixteen years of age or older who are interested in technical education for employment purposes. Some programs are open for registration at any time during the school year. However, most programs have specific entry dates. Anyone interested in enrolling should visit and talk with a guidance counselor, they will assist you with career options. Appointments are not necessary but recommended for better serving you. Students applying for admission to most programs at Manatee Technical Institute are accepted upon completion of the application process on a first-come, first-serve basis. The admission process includes the following:

  • Complete an interview with a counselor and determine program of choice
  • Take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), required by the State of Florida.
  • For testing schedules call 751-7900 ext. 2193 (Main Campus) and 752-8100 ext. 200 (East Campus)
  • Apply for financial aid
  • Visit classes and meet the instructor
  • Register for the class and pay fees
  • Drug test, when required

High School Students

MTI provides instruction to high school students age 16 or older who have expressed an interest in obtaining a technical skill and have the ability and maturity to benefit from training. High school students must contact the guidance department at their High School for more information.

Full-time Career and Technical Programs

Classes are generally six hours a day, five days a week. Most classes begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. and take six months to a year and a half to complete. Part-time classes are available morning, afternoon and evening for most programs.

Continuing Workforce Education Programs

Instruction in continuing workforce education classes (formerly known as supplemental training) is tailored to meet the needs of the community, business, or industry. MTI can customize specialized training for current employees. The classes may be taught at MTI or in the community. MTI Assistant Directors can assist companies with arrangements. Individuals may apply for classes directly.

Administration Office Hours

School Year: Daily (except holidays) - Monday through Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Summer Hours: (June through August) Times vary with program offerings.


Application Forms

Click the links below to download a copy of application form. Return a completed copy to the Guidance Counselor's Office. An official picture ID (Driver License, State ID, etc.) is required. For Medical programs, Law Enforcement and Fire Science, a $30 application fee is required. The application fee for all other programs is $15.

Transfer of Credit

Based on Florida statute, most MTI job preparatory programs have articulation agreements with the state community college system; advanced academic standing is also granted for specific courses. All credits from an Applied Technology Diploma transfer to any community college in the state of Florida. Click here to download student records forms.

Orientation

Weekly orientation meetings give students the opportunity to tour the campus and receive the Student Handbook outlining student responsibilities and student services. Students must go through orientation before they begin their classes.
