FINANCIAL AID
The Financial Aid Office at Manatee Technical Institute provides financial assistance to students who, without such aid, would be unable to attend. Grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid; however, students must make satisfactory progress in their programs in order to continue to be eligible for awards.
Title IV Federal Financial Aid
To be
eligible
for federal financial assistance, a student must complete the FAFSA. A student may apply for a FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by picking up an application at either campus' administration building. In order for a student to be eligible for Title IV Federal Aid, a student must have a high school diploma or GED, be enrolled in an eligible job preparatory program at least 600 hours in length and maintain satisfactory progress. Student's eligible for Title IV aid may receive a Pell Grant, a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and/or be eligible for employment through the Federal Work Study Program.
Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is the basic federal aid and is awarded on the basis of financial need. The amount of an award depends on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is determined by a federal formula from the information reported on the FAFSA. The EFC, MTI's cost of
attendance, and the number of clock hours enrolled during the school year determine the amount awarded.
Federal
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
This grant is awarded to students with exceptional financial needs. The students need is determined by completing a FAFSA.
Federal Work Study
This
federal program provides jobs to the students to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses. Veterans Educational Benefits
MTI is certified by the Florida State Approving Agency for Veterans Educational Benefits. Veterans may apply for educational benefits through this office or online at www.gibill.va.gov.
STATE AND LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Florida's Bright Futures Scholarships These include the Florida Academic Scholars Award, Merit Scholars Award, and the Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award. All three are based on one's high school academic achievement and given to high school seniors. These scholarships are applied for prior to the student's senior year in high school and can be used at MTI.
Florida Prepaid College Fund provides an opportunity for a student's parents to pay in advance for a student's college education. Qualified students should present a
current
prepaid college fund card. This card entitles students to use these funds to pay for their tuition.
